We owe it to planet earth

Responsible travel comes first

Our tours are built on three fundamental pillars of Responsible Travel—protecting the environment, supporting local communities, and promoting animal welfare. These principles aren't just add-ons—they're engrained into every adventure we offer. Let us show you how we bring these commitments to life.

Protecting the environment

With future generations in mind, we’ve adopted sustainable practices, in our offices and on the road with you, with the goal of reducing our carbon footprint and taking positive climate action wherever we can.

Since 2021, EF has planted a total of nine million trees in Kenya, Madagascar, and Mozambique with Eden Reforestation Projects. Beginning in 2024, EF partnered with WeForest to regenerate 1,500 hectares (around 2,100 football fields) of land in Tanzania.

EF Adventures has partnered with Trans Bhutan Trail, the official organization behind the restoration and sustainability of the Trail in Bhutan. This historic trail reopened to tourism in 2022 after a 60-year hiatus and a massive restoration initiative. By collaborating with Trans Bhutan Trail, we help maintain the Trail itself and support the communities who live along it. Our Bhutan tour is designed to be sustainable and low-impact, minimizing vehicle use, eliminating single-use plastics, and featuring meals made from locally sourced, organic produce.

Supporting local communities

For us, traveling has always been about more than seeing places at their surface level. It’s about lifting up local economies, creating social opportunities, and preserving global cultures. Ways we do this on tour include dining at independently owned restaurants, partnering with organizations that preserve cultural heritage, and supporting businesses that employ local artisans and other staff members.

In Peru, we visit the rural community of Misminay. Located 90 minutes from Cuzco, this community of 120 families preserves their ancestral traditions and sacred connection to nature. Our partnership with Misminay supports their community-based tourism project, providing an additional income source beyond agriculture. This collaboration helps promote local culture sustainably while positively impacting the quality of life for Misminay residents.

Promoting animal welfare

We’re firm believers that experiencing a destination should never come at an animal’s expense. Our in-house team of animal lovers, covering all products in the EF portfolio, carefully vet every experience on tour on a regular basis. We’re committed to preserving the health, safety, and dignity of all animals, from Asian elephants to tiny sea turtle hatchlings.

We also look to various organizations that work with animal protection–organizations like World Animal Protection, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, and the Global Federation for Animal Sanctuaries. Their commitment and years of expertise guides us on ensuring that none of our tour experiences exploit animals or threaten their well-being.
